About Hair Colour
Colour that
suits you,
not a swatch.
The perfect shade is never chosen from a chart alone. At ELM, we consider how your colour complements your skin, catches the daylight and grows out between visits. The result should feel as beautiful in everyday life as it does when you leave the salon.
Whether you're looking for a subtle warmth, a rich brunette, a statement copper or natural-looking grey coverage, your colour is blended for you on the day. We'll talk openly about the upkeep it requires, so your result suits both your style and your lifestyle.
Colour is at the heart of ELM Hair & Beauty in Wrexham. Salon owner Emma is a Wella Master Colour Expert, and our team works with Wella colour to create each individual look. Your journey begins with a complimentary consultation. If it's your first colour appointment with us, we'll also arrange a skin test at least 48 hours beforehand.
What to Expect
How It Works
Your private colour consultation
Your experience begins with time dedicated entirely to you. We'll explore your hair's condition and colour history, the shade you're drawn to and the level of upkeep that feels right for your lifestyle. From there, we'll design your colour plan and confirm the price before your service begins.
If this is your first colour appointment at ELM, we'll arrange a skin test at least 48 hours before your visit.
The colour appointment
Your colour is mixed exclusively for you, then applied with precision to create the depth, tone and finish we planned together. After it develops, we'll perfect the shade with a gloss or bespoke toner where needed. A professional blow-dry completes the appointment and brings your new colour to life.
Please allow around 2 hours for a full head colour appointment.
The art of maintaining your colour
Beautiful colour should feel effortless between visits. We'll share a tailored care routine for your hair and recommend the right time for your next root tint or gloss, keeping your shade rich, refined and beautifully maintained.
Most clients return every four to eight weeks, depending on their colour and preferred level of upkeep.

What Our Clients Say
Marie was amazing loving my brows she got the colour just right. Pedicure really relaxing. Highly recommend
Best experience
I had such a lovely experience at ELM Hair & Beauty having my CAST hair extensions fitted by Emma. Emma knew I’d had a really disappointing experience previously with Viola extensions, so she had the added job of removing my old bonds before fitting the new hair. She was absolutely brilliant from start to finish and made the whole appointment feel relaxed and reassuring. The colour match is perfect — the extensions blend beautifully with my own hair — and I’m so pleased with the cut and finish. The difference in the quality of the hair is immediately noticeable too. The whole appointment was a great experience, and the aftercare advice has been brilliant as well. Emma really knows her stuff and I felt completely confident in her hands. I’m so pleased with the result and would definitely recommend ELM Hair & Beauty, especially if you’re considering CAST hair extensions.
Really pleased with the cut. Nice chat with Linda.
Highly recommend! Jess knows what she is doing. She is great hair stylist. Love my new hair 😍
My first visit to the salon. Emma was welcoming and offered a consultation prior to washing my hair. Emma listened to what I wanted and the end result was perfect. Having naturally curly hair she understood how to cut it and more importantly, how to dry it. I shall be returning and highly recommend 😊
Colour FAQs
Good to Know
It depends on the service, your hair length and thickness and what's already on your hair, so we don't put one price on it. A root tint is at the lower end, a full head colour or colour correction more. Book a free consultation and we'll give you an exact price before anything is booked in.
Yes, if you haven't had colour with us in the last six months. It's a tiny bit of colour on your skin at least 48 hours before your appointment, to check you don't react to it. Pop in any time we're open or call us on 01978 263590 and we'll sort it. If you have a sensitive scalp or psoriasis, have a look at our scalp care page before you book.
Most people come every 4 to 6 weeks for a root tint, a bit longer if the colour is close to your natural shade or we've blended the regrowth. If you'd rather not be in that often, tell us at your consultation and we'll suggest a colour that grows out more softly.
Yes. We can cover grey completely, or blend it in with softer tones so it grows out gently and you're not tied to the salon every month. Emma is a Wella Master Colour Expert, so grey coverage that still looks natural is something we do a lot of.
Usually, yes, but please don't try to fix it yourself first, it tends to make it harder. Book a consultation so we can see it in person. Colour correction can take a longer appointment and sometimes more than one visit, and we'll be honest with you about what's realistic and what it will cost.
Permanent colour lasts until it grows out, so it's the regrowth you notice, usually after 4 to 6 weeks. Toners and glosses fade gradually over 4 to 8 weeks. Using colour-safe products at home and not washing every day makes a real difference, and we'll tell you what's worth using.
