About Hair Extensions
Seamlessly

extensions.
Good extensions come down to three things: hair that matches yours, a method that suits your hair type, and someone who fits them properly. We spend a lot of time on all three.
We fit Beauty Works Platinum Lengths and Cast hair extensions, 100% human hair matched to your natural colour and any balayage or highlights you have, so the join is invisible even when your hair is up. Depending on how fine or thick your hair is and how you wear it, we'll suggest nano rings, tape-ins, a weft or bonds. Each sits differently on the head and needs a different kind of upkeep, and we'll be honest about which one will actually work for you.
Extensions are one of the things ELM in Wrexham is best known for. Emma, Jess and Sinead all specialise in them, so you'll be with someone who fits extensions every week, not now and again. Every set starts with a free consultation where we colour-match, talk through length and volume, and tell you what to expect in cost and time before you book anything.
Types of Hair Extensions
Which Method Suits Your Hair?
We fit four methods at ELM. The right one depends on how fine or thick your hair is, how you wear it and how much upkeep you want. Here's the honest version of each.
Nano ring extensions
Small strands of hair fixed to your own with a tiny bead, about the size of a pinhead. No heat, no glue. The join is so small it stays hidden even with your hair up.
- Suits
- Fine to medium hair, and anyone who wants the most discreet fitting.
- Upkeep
- Moved up every six to eight weeks as your hair grows.
Tape-in extensions
Slim, flat wefts of hair fixed either side of a thin section of your own hair with a medical-grade tape. Quick to fit, light to wear, and they lie flat against the head.
- Suits
- Fine hair, and adding volume as much as length.
- Upkeep
- Taken out, re-taped and refitted every six to eight weeks.
Weft extensions
A row of hair sewn onto a discreet track of small beads fitted close to the scalp, with no braiding underneath. One weft adds a lot of hair at once, so it's the quickest route to real fullness.
- Suits
- Medium to thick hair, and anyone who wants volume fast.
- Upkeep
- The track is moved up every six to eight weeks.
Bonded extensions
Individual strands fixed to your own hair with a small keratin bond. The most secure of the four, and the one to choose if you want to fit them and forget about them for a while.
- Suits
- Medium to thick hair, and wearing extensions long term.
- Upkeep
- Worn for around three to four months, then removed with a solution, never pulled, and refitted with fresh bonds.

What to Expect
How It Works
Your consultation & colour match
Your extensions begin with a complimentary consultation. We'll get to know your hair, the length and fullness you'd love, and how you wear and style it day to day. In natural light, we'll carefully colour-match your extension hair for a seamless blend, then recommend the fitting method that suits you and confirm the full price before you book.
Your extension appointment
Once your chosen hair arrives, we'll fit each section with precision, making sure your extensions sit comfortably and blend beautifully. We'll then cut and shape them into your natural hair before styling the finished look, so you can enjoy your new length from the moment you leave.
Please allow two to four hours, depending on your fitting method.
Care, maintenance & removal
We'll show you how to brush, wash and sleep with your extensions to keep them looking beautiful between visits. As your natural hair grows, most methods need to be moved up every six to eight weeks. We'll recommend a schedule that suits your hair and fitting method.
When it's time for removal, we'll carefully take out your extensions and reuse the hair where suitable. Your removal appointment also includes a Nioxin Scalp Dermabrasion treatment and a blow-dry, leaving your natural hair beautifully cared for.

What Our Clients Say
Marie was amazing loving my brows she got the colour just right. Pedicure really relaxing. Highly recommend
Best experience
I had such a lovely experience at ELM Hair & Beauty having my CAST hair extensions fitted by Emma. Emma knew I’d had a really disappointing experience previously with Viola extensions, so she had the added job of removing my old bonds before fitting the new hair. She was absolutely brilliant from start to finish and made the whole appointment feel relaxed and reassuring. The colour match is perfect — the extensions blend beautifully with my own hair — and I’m so pleased with the cut and finish. The difference in the quality of the hair is immediately noticeable too. The whole appointment was a great experience, and the aftercare advice has been brilliant as well. Emma really knows her stuff and I felt completely confident in her hands. I’m so pleased with the result and would definitely recommend ELM Hair & Beauty, especially if you’re considering CAST hair extensions.
Really pleased with the cut. Nice chat with Linda.
Highly recommend! Jess knows what she is doing. She is great hair stylist. Love my new hair 😍
My first visit to the salon. Emma was welcoming and offered a consultation prior to washing my hair. Emma listened to what I wanted and the end result was perfect. Having naturally curly hair she understood how to cut it and more importantly, how to dry it. I shall be returning and highly recommend 😊
Extension FAQs
Good to Know
It depends on the method, the length you want and how much hair it takes to look natural, so there isn't one price. At your free consultation we'll colour-match, work out how much hair you need and give you an exact price for the hair and the fitting together, before you book anything.
The hair itself lasts around 6 to 12 months with good care, sometimes longer, and can usually be refitted at your maintenance appointments. The fitting needs moving up every 6 to 8 weeks as your own hair grows. We'll tell you at your consultation what to expect from the method you choose.
Not when they're fitted and looked after properly. Damage usually comes from the wrong method for your hair type, extensions left in too long, or rough removal. We choose the method to suit your hair, keep to sensible maintenance gaps and remove them carefully, and we'll always tell you if we think your hair isn't ready for them yet.
Usually nano rings or tape-ins, because they're small, light and sit flat, so they don't pull or show through. Wefts can work on fine hair too if we keep the amount of hair sensible. We'll look at your hair at the consultation and be honest about what will and won't hold.
Somewhere between two and four hours depending on the method and how much hair you're having, plus your consultation beforehand. Tape-ins and wefts are at the quicker end, individual nano or bonded strands take longer. Maintenance appointments are shorter.
Brush gently from the ends up with an extension brush, wash with a sulphate-free shampoo and keep conditioner away from the joins, dry the roots properly, and sleep with your hair in a loose plait. We'll go through it all with you at your fitting and give you the products we actually recommend, nothing you don't need.
It depends on the method, and we'll tell you at your fitting. Tape-ins and bonds need a day or two to set properly before they get wet. Nano rings and wefts are more forgiving. When you do wash, keep it gentle, shampoo the scalp rather than scrubbing the joins, and dry the roots fully.
Yes. We place the fittings so they sit below the parting and away from the hairline, which means a ponytail or a loose up-do won't show them. Very tight, high styles put strain on the joins, so keep those for occasions rather than every day, especially in the first week.
Your own hair can still be coloured, and it's best done here so we can work around the fittings and keep colour off the joins. We'd steer you away from box dye at home for that reason. If you change your colour a lot, we'll check the extension hair still matches and talk you through the options. Our hair colour page covers what we do.
All fine with a bit of care. Plait your hair for the gym and for sleeping, rinse chlorine or salt water out straight away and dry the roots. Straighteners and tongs are fine on the lengths with a heat protectant, just keep them away from the joins. Hot tubs and saunas are the one thing to go easy on, as long spells of heat loosen tape and bonds.
Your fitting has moved down as your hair has grown, so we take it out, clean and re-prepare the hair, and fit it back close to the root. We check your own hair while we're there, trim and blend if needed, and book your next visit before you leave. It's quicker than the first fitting.
Done properly it shouldn't hurt at all. Each method comes out with the right tool or solution, so beads are opened, tape is dissolved and bonds are softened, and nothing is pulled. We keep the hair for reuse where it's still in good condition. Your removal appointment includes a Nioxin Scalp Dermabrasion treatment and a blow-dry, so your own hair is cared for before you leave.
Yes, we do this a lot. Book a free consultation first so we can see what's in, how your hair underneath is doing and whether it's ready for a new set straight away. If it needs a break first we'll tell you, and we'll plan the removal and the refit around that.
