Balayage in Wrexham Balayage Specialists
Soft, blended colour that grows out gently, so you're not chasing your roots every few weeks. Every colour appointment starts with a free consultation.
About Balayage
Balayage is
a technique,
not a colour.
It describes how the colour is applied: swept through the hair in soft strokes, finer at the root and fuller towards the ends, so it blends in rather than sitting in a solid line.
Because it's a technique rather than a shade, it works on any base colour. On brunettes it gives soft caramel and honey through the lengths, on lighter hair it's that sun-lightened blonde. Depending on your hair and how light you want to go, we'll work freehand or use foils for extra lift, then finish with a toner or gloss to get the tone right. The regrowth is soft either way, so it grows out well and you can leave longer between appointments.
Balayage and blonde work are a big part of what we do at ELM in Wrexham. Jess is our balayage specialist, and Emma, who owns the salon, is a Wella Master Colour Expert. If you're not sure what you want yet, that's what the consultation is for. We'll look at your hair, talk about upkeep, and give you a straight answer on what will suit you and what it involves.
What to Expect
How It Works
Consultation
We look at your hair, go through any photos you've saved and how much upkeep you want, then agree the look and the price before any colour goes on. Consultations are free.
The appointment
Colour goes on and processes, then we tone or gloss to get the shade right and style it to finish. Allow a few hours for a full head. If it's your first colour with us, you'll need a skin test at least 48 hours before.
Aftercare and top-ups
You'll leave with an aftercare plan put together for your hair, not a generic one: how to look after it at home, which products are worth it and which aren't, and roughly when to come back for a gloss or toner to keep it fresh between full appointments.

What Our Clients Say
Had an app with Jess and, just wow. She turned me back into the bright blonde I should be. Proper blonde colour technician and I will definitely be using her from now on.
Always a pleasure to see Marie, such a friendly, helpful, professional service carried out by her, spot-on, wonderful!
Fantastic haircut and welcoming, friendly staff. Left feeling so relaxed and like a milllion dollars! Would highly recommend.
I don’t know why I’ve never reviewed before but being going to Jess for a while now. Lovely girl, laugh and chat the whole time and very good at what she does.
Marie is always attentive and professional and would highly recommend her services.
So having to put trust in a hair dresser is very hard for me, ive been suffering for years with my scalp and finding a hairdresser that can tackle this aswell as give me confidence with my hair over the years has been a struggle. I came to Emma with a big job at hand and not only did she make me feel comfortable she tackled the unthinkable. My skin test on my first appointment she was honest with me and said right let's tackle the cut and get a plan in motion with the scalp, 2nd appointment in and my scalp was completely clear omg years of suffering with psoriasis and I one session I felt a million dollars! Aswell as this she tackled a bodged haircut which made me feel uncomfortable to even have my hair styled. 3rd appointment she corrected a years worth of failed bleach and uneven tones aswell as overlapping that I couldn't see underneath, not only did I walk out with an even colour, but I walked out with a smile, she's been very honest on where to go moving forward and im so excited for my hair journey! Highly recommend Emma and her team so welcoming made me feel comfortable 😊 Emma is amazing and I can't thank her enough for the confidence I now feel. Best hairdressers in wrexham by far!
Balayage FAQs
Good to Know
It depends on your hair and what you're starting from, so we don't put one price on it. Length, thickness, how light you want to go and whether you need a toner or Wellaplex all change it. Book a free consultation and we'll look at your hair and give you an exact price before anything is booked in. Jess is our balayage specialist, so ask for her if you'd like, or book with Emma, our Master Colour Expert, for her expertise.
Highlights give more visual impact, from the roots right to the ends, and a more uniform, crafted look. How light you go and how much lightness you have can be subtle or dramatic, depending on your hair now and the photos you bring. Maintenance is usually every 3 to 4 months. Balayage means 'to sweep' in French. Lightener is painted onto the hair by hand, placed to build dimension, with a soft, diffused root that's perfect for low-maintenance hair. The result is natural and sun-kissed, and maintenance is usually every 5 to 6 months.
Usually three to four hours, sometimes longer for very long or thick hair or a big change. We'll tell you at your consultation how long to allow so you can plan your day around it.
Yes, if you haven't had colour with us in the last six months. It's a tiny bit of colour on your skin at least 48 hours before your appointment, to check you don't react to it. Pop in any time we're open or call us on 01978 263590 and we'll sort it.
A toner or gloss between full appointments does most of the work. It stops blondes going brassy and puts the shine back. At home, use a decent colour-safe shampoo, and a purple or blue toning shampoo once a week if you're blonde. If you're going a lot lighter we'll usually suggest Wellaplex in your colour to keep the hair strong. We also offer a balayage refresh, a shorter appointment between full balayages that brightens your lengths and ends and re-tones the whole head, so you get that just-done look again without starting from scratch. We'll go through it all with you at your appointment rather than send you off with a bag of products.
