About Hair Colour
Colour that
suits you,
not a swatch.
The shade on the chart is only the start. Good colour is about how it sits against your skin, how it holds up between visits and how it looks in daylight, not just under the salon lights.
We colour everything from a subtle warm-up of your natural shade to full reds and coppers, deep brunettes and grey coverage that doesn't look flat. Every colour is mixed for you on the day rather than picked off a shelf, and we'll talk honestly about how often it will need doing so there are no surprises.
Colour is the heart of what we do at ELM in Wrexham. Emma, who owns the salon, is a Wella Master Colour Expert, one of the highest colour qualifications a hairdresser can hold, and the whole team works with Wella colour. Every colour appointment starts with a free consultation, and if it's your first colour with us you'll need a quick skin test at least 48 hours before.
What to Expect
How It Works
Consultation and skin test
We look at your hair and any previous colour on it, talk about the shade you're after and how much upkeep you want, then agree the plan and the price. If it's your first colour with us, we do a quick skin test at least 48 hours before your appointment.
Colour day
We mix your colour fresh, apply it, let it process and rinse. Most colours are finished with a gloss or toner to get the tone exactly right, then a blow dry so you can see it properly. A root tint is around an hour and a half, a full head colour three to three and a half hours.
Keeping it looking good
We'll tell you how to look after it at home and when to book your next root tint or gloss so it never gets to the stage of looking grown out. Most people are back every 4 to 8 weeks depending on the colour.

What Our Clients Say
Had an app with Jess and, just wow. She turned me back into the bright blonde I should be. Proper blonde colour technician and I will definitely be using her from now on.
Always a pleasure to see Marie, such a friendly, helpful, professional service carried out by her, spot-on, wonderful!
Fantastic haircut and welcoming, friendly staff. Left feeling so relaxed and like a milllion dollars! Would highly recommend.
I don’t know why I’ve never reviewed before but being going to Jess for a while now. Lovely girl, laugh and chat the whole time and very good at what she does.
Marie is always attentive and professional and would highly recommend her services.
So having to put trust in a hair dresser is very hard for me, ive been suffering for years with my scalp and finding a hairdresser that can tackle this aswell as give me confidence with my hair over the years has been a struggle. I came to Emma with a big job at hand and not only did she make me feel comfortable she tackled the unthinkable. My skin test on my first appointment she was honest with me and said right let's tackle the cut and get a plan in motion with the scalp, 2nd appointment in and my scalp was completely clear omg years of suffering with psoriasis and I one session I felt a million dollars! Aswell as this she tackled a bodged haircut which made me feel uncomfortable to even have my hair styled. 3rd appointment she corrected a years worth of failed bleach and uneven tones aswell as overlapping that I couldn't see underneath, not only did I walk out with an even colour, but I walked out with a smile, she's been very honest on where to go moving forward and im so excited for my hair journey! Highly recommend Emma and her team so welcoming made me feel comfortable 😊 Emma is amazing and I can't thank her enough for the confidence I now feel. Best hairdressers in wrexham by far!
Colour FAQs
Good to Know
It depends on the service, your hair length and thickness and what's already on your hair, so we don't put one price on it. A root tint is at the lower end, a full head colour or colour correction more. Book a free consultation and we'll give you an exact price before anything is booked in.
Yes, if you haven't had colour with us in the last six months. It's a tiny bit of colour on your skin at least 48 hours before your appointment, to check you don't react to it. Pop in any time we're open or call us on 01978 263590 and we'll sort it.
Most people come every 4 to 6 weeks for a root tint, a bit longer if the colour is close to your natural shade or we've blended the regrowth. If you'd rather not be in that often, tell us at your consultation and we'll suggest a colour that grows out more softly.
Yes. We can cover grey completely, or blend it in with softer tones so it grows out gently and you're not tied to the salon every month. Emma is a Wella Master Colour Expert, so grey coverage that still looks natural is something we do a lot of.
Usually, yes, but please don't try to fix it yourself first, it tends to make it harder. Book a consultation so we can see it in person. Colour correction can take a longer appointment and sometimes more than one visit, and we'll be honest with you about what's realistic and what it will cost.
Permanent colour lasts until it grows out, so it's the regrowth you notice, usually after 4 to 6 weeks. Toners and glosses fade gradually over 4 to 8 weeks. Using colour-safe products at home and not washing every day makes a real difference, and we'll tell you what's worth using.
